Meet the Officers

Nat Rivet (they/them)

President

Nat Rivet is a junior double majoring in music education and music performance at Nazareth College. Their primary instrument is saxophone. This summer, they travelled with the Nazareth College wind symphony on their 2022 tour to Ireland. They also studied at the American Saxophone Academy at the Hart School-University of Hartford.  They have dreams of teaching general music, modern band, saxophone, and chamber ensembles. Last year, they served as NAfME's treasurer, and are very excited to be returning as NAfME president!

Adrianna Massaro (she/her)

 Vice President

Adrianna Massaro is a junior Music Education major at Naz this year with a concentration in vocal/choral studies. She spent the last year serving as the Vice President of Nazareth's NAfME chapter, and is thrilled to be doing the same this year! Additionally, she is a member of the Nazareth College Honors program. Her belief is that music is a skill that every individual has, and therefore should have the opportunity to share with the world. In her own words, music is one of the many things that unites us as humans and, it is her hope that all can have equal opportunities to it through the newest generation of music educators. In addition to NAfME Club, Adrianna is also an active member of ACDA, the Nazareth College Decks ‘n Dice Club, and a member of the Naz eSports Team. Adrianna is also very excited to announce that she will be taking on the role of secretary/treasurer for collegiate NYSSMA and to work with other members from around the state! She is looking to work with college students in her future professional career.

Emily Overacker (she/her)

Secretary

Emily Overacker is a junior music education student at Nazareth with a concentration in vocal music. In addition, she plays the flute in the night flyers band and travelled to Ireland this summer with the Nazareth college wind symphony for their 2022 tour. Emily is also the 2022-2023 province 2 representative for NYSSMA. In her free time, she enjoys binge watching supernatural, watching true crime documentaries, and jamming out to Taylor Swift. Kara Bolt (she/her)

Treasurer

Kara Boldt is a voice primary music education student at Nazareth. She wants to teach music to inspire students to love music, and appreciate how it shapes the world we live in. She wants a classroom where all different kinds of students can come together and make something beautiful and have fun.

Jen Bachman (she/her)

Historian

Jen Bachman is junior music education student from Syracuse, NY. She also minors in psychology and dance. Her primary instrument is clarinet and her secondaries are cello and piano. She is very excited to be joining the board for the Nazareth College's chapter of NAfME for the 2022-2023 year!

Dr. Tilley (he/him)

Chapter Advisor

Dr. Tilley is the assistant professor of music education at the Nazareth College School of Music
where he teaches several undergraduate and graduate music education courses, including Band
Techniques and Literature, Secondary Music Education Methods, Orientation to the Professional
Semester, Introduction to Music Education, Psychology of Music Education, and Student
Teaching Seminar. In addition to his instruction and student teaching supervision, he serves as
the advisor for Nazareth’s collegiate chapter of the National Association for Music Education.
Prior to joining the faculty Nazareth College, he served as associate instructor of music
education at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and taught for six years in k-12
public and independent schools in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
His scholarship spans quantitative, qualitative, and historical methodologies and focuses on
issues of equity and access through arts education policy, public school music education funding,
and historical examinations of instrumental music education in the United States. He has
presented research at the International Society for Music Education Commission on Policy:
Culture, Education and Media, National Association for Music Education Music Research and
Teacher Education Conference, Oxford Symposium on the History of Music Education, New
Directions in Music Education Conference, Big Ten Academic Alliance Music Education
Conference, and Indiana University Music Education Research Colloquium.
As an active clinician, he has presented practitioner presentations focused on policy, school
funding, and instrumental music education at the National Association for Music Education
Eastern Division Conference and state music education association conferences in Indiana,
Pennsylvania, and Delaware. He has been invited to present workshops and guest lectures at the
Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, University of North Texas, Ball State University,
and The College of New Jersey. Additionally, he has served as a guest conductor for k-12 and
collegiate bands and orchestras throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
Dr. Tilley is currently ABD for the PhD in music education with a specialization in wind conducting
and minor in education policy from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He earned
his Master of Music degree in music education from the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins
University where he studied wind conducting with Harlan Parker and Bachelor of Music degree
in music education from the University of Delaware.

Sarah Efing (she/her)

Advocacy chair

Sarah Efing is a "junior" Inclusive Early Education major who found NafME as a music ed major for two years. She wants to teach kindergarten through second grade, integrating inclusive learning techniques and musical aspects to make a wholistic education environment that focuses on celebrating expression.
